Changelog
What's new in each version of Music MCP. The version you download here updates itself; get the latest.
Version 1.4.17
- Updates you notice. When Music MCP finds an update while you're in another app, it no longer opens a window that can end up behind your other windows. Its menu bar icon gets a small dot, and the panel shows Update Available.
- Connect your AI once more, whenever it's needed. If you install a new copy of Music MCP while an older one is still on your Mac and remove the older one later, Music MCP now reminds you to give your AI apps the setup prompt again.
Version 1.4.16
- One button. The window that asks for Apple Music now has a single button, Continue. You decide in the macOS dialog that follows it.
Version 1.4.15
- Works with ChatGPT. The ChatGPT desktop app left Music MCP out of its chats: Music MCP refused a part of ChatGPT's handshake that it doesn't even need. It now reads only what it uses, and ChatGPT's chats can use it.
- Asks for Apple Music when it's needed. If Apple Music isn't set up yet when your AI first needs it, a window asks you right then, and the request carries on once you allow it.
- Not Now, for a moment. After Not Now, an immediate retry by your AI doesn't bring the window back, but your next request does. It used to stay quiet for five minutes.
Version 1.4.14
- Stays quit. After you quit Music MCP, it stays closed while your AI app starts or opens a new session. It starts again when your AI asks for music.
Version 1.4.13
- Not Now holds for a while. When your AI asks to see your library or to change it and you choose Not Now, Music MCP doesn't ask again for five minutes, even if your AI tries again. When it needs it again later, you're asked again.
Version 1.4.12
- No space in the file name. The app's file is now named MusicMCP, and so is the command your AI starts: some AI apps can't start a command with a space in it. You still read the name as Music MCP everywhere.
- Your AI apps stay connected. This update keeps the file name your copy has, and the old command keeps working. If you move or rename the app later, Music MCP tells you to paste the setup prompt once more.
- Works through a link. A link to the program from another folder, say one on your PATH, now starts Music MCP too.
Version 1.4.11
- Speaker button. A new button in the panel's top line opens your Mac's sound settings, where you choose a HomePod or another AirPlay speaker. Music MCP plays where your Mac plays.
- Your AI knows about speakers. Ask it to play somewhere else and it tells you how to choose the speaker.
Version 1.4.10
- Moved songs keep their names. After you drag a song to another place in the queue, it could show up as "Unknown Song" without artist or cover. It now stays what it is.
Version 1.4.9
- Smaller download. Music MCP now takes about half the space on your Mac. Nothing else has changed.
Version 1.4.8
- Can't find the icon? Open Music MCP again while it's running and it tells you where its menu bar icon is, or that it's hidden behind the notch and how to make room.
Version 1.4.7
- Smoother queue. A song you drop lands without the list flickering afterwards.
- Fixed: media keys stopped working. Moving a song to the very top of the queue made Apple's player crash, which also cut off your keyboard's play and skip keys. That can't happen any more.
- The Music app's bars now mark the playing song, and long titles scroll more smoothly.
- Much lighter on your Mac while the panel is open.
Version 1.4.6
- Rearrange the queue. Drag songs up or down in the panel, or right-click a song to play it next or remove it. Your AI is told what you changed the next time it does something, so it keeps your order.
- Copy Song Info. Right-click a song to copy its title, artist, album and link, ready to paste into a message to your AI.
- Drag the progress bar to jump anywhere in the song.
- Smoother covers. Skipping a song or moving one in the queue no longer flashes a placeholder.
- Lighter on your Mac. The panel no longer keeps animating in the background after you close it.
Version 1.4.5
- One click to Apple Music. Your AI can link every song, album and artist it mentions, so you can open it in the Music app straight from the chat.
- Show in Apple Music. Right-click a song in the panel to open it in the Music app.
Version 1.4.4
- Sleep timer. Ask your AI to stop the music in 30 minutes. The panel shows when it will pause.
- Your AI knows what you play. If you share your library, it can see your most played songs and artists, and check whether an artist is really new to you before saying so.
- Library search finds things. Searching your own library for an artist, album or song now returns what's there.
Version 1.4.3
- Your AI knows what really happened. Every command now reports what the player actually did: how many songs made it into the queue, and a warning when something didn't take effect.
- The queue can be edited. Your AI can jump to a song, remove or move songs, and clear the queue.
- Faster lookups. It can search for many artists or songs in one go, limit a search to artists only, and tell an exact name from a similar one.
- Lengths at a glance. The queue and playlists report their number of songs and total playing time.
Version 1.4.2
- Shuffle keeps the names. When a set is shuffled, every song in the list still shows its title, artist and cover.
- Playlist and queue stay together. Songs your AI adds to the playlist that's playing now also join the play queue, so the music doesn't stop where the playlist used to end.
- Clearer for your AI: it now knows that Apple Music only allows adding to the end of a playlist, and builds ordered playlists in one go.
Version 1.4.1
- Updates itself. Music MCP now downloads and installs new versions for you, after one click.
Version 1.4
- The first public version. Your AI agent searches Apple Music and plays songs, albums, playlists and radio on your Mac.
- The whole set in the panel: what played, what's playing and what's next.
- Sets that fit your taste: if you allow it, your AI sees your library and recent plays.
- Save your sets: if you allow it, your AI creates playlists, adds music to your library, and loves or dislikes songs.
- In 11 languages.
